Who can treat patients with a hyperbaric chamber?

Do you what to open or add a hyperbaric chamber to your business?  Or that you want to see people regularly with your hyperbaric chamber?  If so you need to read this article before doing anything.  Hello my name is Dr. Louis Hilliard and I have been doing HBOT for over 10 years now.  In this article I hope to teach you who can treat patient with a hyperbaric chamber.  If you are considering adding a hyperbaric chamber to your business or starting up one this article is a must read.
With hyperbaric becoming more and more popular there are more people buying hyperbaric chambers to  add to their  business or start up one.  People with the best intentions could be breaking the law in a huge way.

Federal Laws

Federal law classifies hyperbaric chambers as a class II medical device.  With that only physicians are aloud to administer hyperbaric to the public.  To insure public safety.  
FDA approval to treat 13 conditions are for only medical grade chambers mono-place and multi-place chambers. Mild hyperbaric chamber are only approve for low oxygen levels.  That is it.  Federal law states that only a physicians can use a class II medical device to serve the public.  

State Laws

State laws regulate who can use the equipment to administer care to the public.  It is up to the individual state medical or chiropractic board to approve what is within the scope of practice for their perspective professions.  These boards will monitor and regulate who, what, where and how patient care is being done.  If any problems or concerns are brought up it is up to the individual state board to address the issues.  

Not a Physician

There are more and more business owners wanting to add hyperbaric oxygen therapy to their business. If you not a physician and you are putting someone in a chamber, you are putting someones health or life in danger and you could be committing medical fraud and charge with practicing medicine without a licens.  I often hear well this person or business is doing it and they are not a health care physician.  There are plenty of people that break the law everyday and our jails are filled with people that had good intentions.  But it does not give someone the right to do the same.  Just because you have a finger does not give you the right to do prostate exams on people. There is a responsibility to uphold patient safest and offer honest care.  If you know of a business or person that is using a hyperbaric chamber for business, seeing patients and they are not a physician I urge you to call your state medical board. Believe it or not they are putting the public in danger.  You must be a board certified state licens holder physician to see patients or the community.
